RAIPUR: Raipur District Collector Dr. Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure honored the capital resident Surendra Bairagi on Thursday for working towards environmental protection.
He is running a special campaign to make the environment plastic free. For this, the Bairagi family make products like eco-friendly bowls, cups, soap dispensers from coconut shells and distribute them free of cost.
Praising him, Bhure said that the work being done by Bairagi and his family is unique in itself. The entire society, especially the new generation, should take inspiration from him. Today, the environment around us is getting polluted due to plastic, the negative effects of which are visible. His initiative will provide an alternative to plastic to the general public and will motivate them to use it less.
Surendra Bairagi and his family living in Fafadih, Raipur have taken a unique initiative to make the city plastic free. He tries to create awareness among people about the harm caused by the use of single-use plastic.
He said coconut is used in large quantities in temples and its shell becomes unusable after use. He got the idea of making various types of useful things from them. He started making the best from this waste coconut shell.
Along with coconut utensils, he also makes artistic things like table lamps, and bangles. His wife Asha works to stitch bags from old clothes, bed-sheets or unused clothes. These are then distributed with help of his friends and children.
Surendra says that he urges the shopkeepers to use coconut bowls instead of the plastic bowls.
Earlier, a post based on Bairagi was made by the district administration from a social account. Which received a lot of appreciation. The video was watched by more than 20 lakh people and shared by 38,000.
