CG NEWS: Alert for Heat Wave: Move out only if urgent work

Raipur,Chhattisgarh,INDIA: The Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Chhattisgarh has issued an advisory for all the citizens of the state in view of the increasing temperature in the summer months.

The warning states that there is a possibility of severe heat and citizens may suffer from heat stroke. So proactive steps need to be taken for prevention.

The order states that there are adverse effects of intense heat from the sun that have an adverse effect on body temperature. Due to which the body temperature increases uncontrollably, causing deficiency of water and minerals in the body, this condition is called heatstroke or heat stroke.

Chief Medical and Health Officer, Bemetara, Dr. S.R. Churendra said that all the community, primary and sub-health centres including the district hospital will be provided with adequate quantities of necessary life-saving medicines and others for prevention and treatment of heat stroke.

He further said the symptoms of heat stroke include heaviness and pain in the head, high fever along with dry mouth, dizziness and vomiting, body ache along with weakness, lack of sweating despite high body temperature, excessive thirst and less urination. Loss of appetite and fainting.

He said, to prevent heat stroke, drink enough water even if one does not feel thirsty; people with epilepsy or possible heart, kidney or liver disease, who take a fluid restricted diet or who have problems with fluid retention, should consult a doctor before increasing fluid intake.

On preventive steps, he said do not go out of the house unless it is absolutely necessary. Before going out in the sun, wrap your head and ears properly with a cloth. Drink plenty of water. Do not stay in the sun for long. Wear soft cotton clothes during summer so that air and clothes can absorb sweat. In case of excessive sweating, Drink the ORS solution. In case of dizziness or vomiting, rest in a shady place. Drink soft water, fruit juice, lassi, buttermilk and others. In case of vomiting, headache, high fever, seek necessary advice from the nearest hospital or health centre.
