CG NEWS: Advisory to tackle risk of heat stroke

Raipur/Bemetara: With rising temperature and hot winds in the summer season, the Health and Family welfare department, Government of Chhattisgarh has issued an advisory to tackle risk of heat stroke.

Health Department Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. Sant Ram Churendra and District Health Officer Dr. Ashok Kumar Basod have appealed to the people to ensure that there is no shortage of water in the body. Due to excessive heat, there may be a problem of lack of water or dehydration in the body. It will impact overall health.

The doctors said the symptoms of heat stroke are experiencing heaviness and pain in the head, dry mouth along with high fever, dizziness and vomiting, body ache along with weakness, lack of sweating despite high body temperature, excessive thirst, less urination, Loss of appetite and fainting.

The main reason for heat stroke is dehydration mainly due to lack of water and minerals, mainly salt, in the body due to prolonged exposure to strong sunlight and heat.

The precaution is to not to go out of the house in summer unless it is absolutely necessary. Before going out in the sun, wrap your head and ears properly with a cloth.

To avoid heatstroke, drink plenty of water and do not remain on an empty stomach. Do not stay in the sun for a long time. In summer, one should wear soft cotton clothes so that air and clothes keep absorbing sweat. ORS in case of excessive sweating. Drink enough water or solution. If one feels dizzy or nauseated, rest in a shady place.

In case of heat stroke, or in case of vomiting, headache or high fever, go to the nearest hospital or health centre and seek necessary advice.
