Sanitation works comes to standstill in Raipur City

RAIPUR,CG,BHARAT: The sanitation employees have launched an indefinite strike against the Raipur Municipal Corporation raising demands in Chhattisgarh.

Employees are demanding direct salary payment and Rs 4,000 ‘Shram Samman’ sum. Sanitation and drinking water supply in 70 wards of Raipur were halted on Wednesday due to the strike. All employees are protesting work on low pay through contractors.

In fact, more than 20,000 employees are protesting across the state. At the same time, more than 400 placement employees of Raipur are performing the work. Employees are demanding closure of contract practice. Employees say they will continue the indefinite strike if the authorities do speak to them. There are184 urban bodies, 14 Municipal Corporations, 50 Municipalities and 120 Nagar Panchayats which employ placement staff.

The placement employees have been worried about the salary for a long time. Not only this, the demand for regularisation of employees working in the bodies has been demanded from the government for a long time. But neither the Congress government nor the BJP government has taken up the matter to resolve it. It is alleged that the government is paying crores as commission to the placement agency every year for the supply of workforce.
