CG: Diarrhea outbreak, 45 cases found

MAHASAMUND,INDIA: A diarrhea outbreak has affected a large number of people in Garhsivni village, located 16 kilometers from the district headquarters, due to the consumption of contaminated water in Chhattisgarh.

Ten critical patients are currently receiving treatment at the district’s medical college, while health officials have set up a camp in the village to provide medical care. Health department staff conducted a health check-up for the affected residents, identifying 45 cases of diarrhea so far.

According to Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. P. Kudeshiya, the situation is under control, although 2–4 new cases are being reported daily. Necessary medicines are being distributed, and water samples from multiple sources in the village have been collected by the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department for testing, with results expected within 1–2 days.

Former MLA and BJP State Convenor of the Medical Cell, Dr. Vimal Chopra, visited the district hospital to meet the patients and assess their condition. The outbreak, attributed to contaminated water, has led to about 60 residents falling ill with symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach pain. Of these, 30 patients are receiving treatment at the Tumgaon Sub Health Center and Mahasamund District Hospital, while others are being treated at the village camp.

Dr. Kudeshiya noted that the first cases were reported three days ago when several young residents of the village experienced symptoms of stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. Over the subsequent days, the number of cases surged to over 45. The health department responded promptly by dispatching a medical team and initiating water chlorination measures. The situation is being monitored closely, and authorities report that the outbreak is now under control.
