RAIPUR/MAHASAMUND,CG,INDIA: With temperatures continuing to rise, a 'Yellow Alert' has been issued in 13 districts of Chhattisgarh, including Mahasamund, where the temperature has already reached close to 35°C- 39.5°C. The risk of heat waves is increasing, particularly affecting children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions. When the atmospheric temperature exceeds 40°C (104°F), the body's ability to regulate heat, controlled by the hypothalamus, can become impaired, leading to heat stroke.
Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. P. Kudeshia highlighted the symptoms of heat stroke, which include severe headaches, dizziness, vomiting, weakness, high fever, lack of sweating despite increased body temperature, excessive thirst, and reduced urine output.
For immediate first aid, it is recommended to place a cold water strip on the patient's head, provide plenty of fluids such as water, raw mango juice, and jaljeera, and keep the patient in a ventilated area while spraying cold water on their body. Seeking medical attention at the nearest health center is crucial, and ORS solution should be given to prevent dehydration.
To prevent heat-related illnesses, it is advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure, keep the head and ears covered when stepping outside, stay hydrated, wear loose cotton clothing, and consume ORS solution when experiencing excessive sweating. If dizziness or nausea occurs, resting in a shaded area and drinking cooling fluids is recommended. In case of any health concerns, free medical guidance is available through the 104 Arogya Seva Kendra helpline.
