RAIPUR,CG(INDIA): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy on Friday handed over the country’s first composite license contract for a lithium block to Maiki South Mining Pvt. Ltd. in Katghora, Korba district. The license was awarded through e-auction with a winning bid of 76.05%. The announcement came during a review meeting of the Department of Minerals held at Mahanadi Bhavan in Raipur.
During the meeting, both leaders reviewed the progress of mineral exploration, technological advancements, and revenue generation in Chhattisgarh’s mining sector. Union Minister Reddy praised the state’s achievements and its vital contribution to India’s goal of producing one billion tonnes of coal in 2024-25. He also emphasized Chhattisgarh’s importance in the nation’s growth, calling it rich in strategic minerals like coal, tin, iron ore, bauxite, and limestone.
Chief Minister Sai said that the meeting would help strengthen the coordination between the state and central governments for better resource use. He highlighted ongoing efforts to ensure transparent and efficient mining through initiatives like online portals, e-auctions, and environmental ratings. He reaffirmed the government’s goal to make Chhattisgarh a key contributor to a developed India by focusing on critical mineral exploration and inclusive development in mining-affected regions.
Union Minister Reddy mentioned his recent visit to Gevra, India’s largest coal mine, and appreciated the use of modern technology and green initiatives like Miyawaki plantations. He also spoke about introducing solar energy projects in mining areas and monitoring the progress of the dedicated coal transport corridor to reduce traffic and improve safety.
Secretary to the Chief Minister and Minerals Department, P. Dayanand, gave a presentation detailing the state's policies and activities. He shared updates on the redevelopment of former mines and railway projects funded by the Mineral Development Fund. He also noted that more than ₹15,000 crore has been used through the DMF portal for the development of 33 mining-affected districts.
In addition to the lithium block, four iron ore blocks in Dantewada and Kanker districts were awarded to Arcelor Mittal, Rungta Sons, and Sagar Stone. Geological reports for three tin blocks in Dantewada, Sukma, and Bastar have also been submitted to the Centre for further auction.
