The Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh has taken initiative to provide groundnut ‘chikki’ to the children of Anganwadi centres in the district as part of increasing the nutritional level.
The chikki is rich in vitamin-E magnesium. It is manufactured by the women’s self-help group and is being given to the children of the Anganwadi centre.
The work of making chikki from groundnut started with the Didis of Bade Karli's self-help group and the youth of Rajeev Yuva Mitan.With its demand in the local market and Anganwadi centres, the women's group was entrusted with the task of supplying groundnut chikki to the children in the Anganwadi centres of Badegudra and Geedam project by the district administration, an official communication said.
So far, 25, 665 pieces of chikki worth Rs 1.53 lakh have been supplied by the group. Under the Mukhyamantri Suposhan Yojana, boiled egg and soyabean are given to children between the age of 3 to 6 years and to pregnant women. It is also given to lactating mothers of children up to 6 months. Apart from this, children are also given peanut laddoos. Milk, bananas, and eggs are nutritious foods.
