IAEC in Medical College Raipur for research on animals

RAIPUR: The one of the biggest and apex medical institutions of Chhattisgarh Pt Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College, Raipur has constituted the Institutional Animal Ethical Committee (IAEC).

Apart from it, an equipped animal house for research experiments to be carried out in animals has also been formed. It has been registered officially with the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA), Department of Animal Husbandry, New-Delhi, said Dr Arvind Neral, Professor & HOD Pathology.

The registration is for the purpose of “Research for education purposes on small animals”. To tackle the ethical issues, controlling and monitoring of this animal house, an Institutional Animal Ethics Committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Dr. Arvind Neral, Professor & HOD Pathology.

Member secretary is Dr. Usha Joshi, Professor & HOD. Pharmacology. Other members are Dr. Sumit Tripathi, Professor & HOD Physiology, Dr. Jagannath Pal, Scientist and Dr. Jasmeet Singh a veterinarian. CCSEA has nominated four other members for this committee, they are - Dr. T. Pugazhenthan, Asst. Professor, pharmacology AIIMS Raipur as a main nominee. Dr. Deependra Singh from Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University as a link nominee, Dr. Shekhar Verma, Principal Govt, College of Pharmacy as a Scientist and Dr. Satyabrata Bhanja Principal RITEE College of Pharmacy as a Social Nominee.

Dr Neral said that it would open the path for research based on animal experiments. Small animals for research will be procured from registered establishments.
