AMBIKAPUR, CG: An earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale was felt here at 2.50 minutes in the afternoon hours in Ambikapur of Surguja division of Chhattisgarh.
The Surguja division is considered to be in the fault zone from an earthquake point of view. However, the intensity of 3.3 is not considered high. The epicenter of the earthquake was Singrauli in MP, about 132 km from Ambikapur.
Strong earthquake tremors were felt in Ambikapur even 4 months ago. On Monday night, August 28, people felt two earthquake tremors within 25 minutes in North Chhattisgarh. At 8.04 pm, suddenly the ground started shaking with loud thunder. The effect of the earthquake lasted for about four to five seconds.
The National Centre for Seismology tweet states that an earthquake of magnitude 3.3 occurred on December 26 at 02.45 hours at depth of 4 kilometres.
No casualty was reported from the region.
