Special campaign for voter awareness in low voting areas

Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India: Chief Electoral Officer, Chhattisgarh Reena Baba Saheb Kangale on Monday said voter awareness programs should be organized especially in areas with low voting percentage. Organize programs to motivate young voters through Anganwadi workers, college students and youth of NSS, NCC and Scout Guides.

She was addressing the meeting of the state level SVEEP (Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation) core committee held at the office of the Chief Electoral Office.

The role of voters is important in the grand festival of Lok Sabha general elections. In the election festival, every voter's vote has an important role in shaping the future of his region and the country. The aim of the Election Commission is that every voter should reach the polling station to exercise his franchise. Voter awareness programs are an important medium to motivate voters to vote, she said.

She added, various voter awareness programs will be organized at the state level in the next one month. A state level ceremony of newlywed felicitation will be organized on March 17. Newly married brides will be honoured.

The youth will play a big role in ensuring 100 percent voting. Young voters should not only come forward to vote themselves but should also inspire other voters to come to the polling booth and exercise their franchise, she said.

Kangale also praised the role of National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC) and Scout Guides in the voter awareness program in the last Assembly Elections- 2023 and in the polling stations on the voting day.

The role of Anganwadi workers was important in the entire election process and appreciated their work during the last elections.

During the meeting, she made it clear that children below 14 years of age should not be included in any voter awareness program.

She stressed on running voter awareness programs in the entire state in coordination with Women and Child Development Department, Higher Education, School Education, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Doordarshan, All India Radio, Public Relations Department and other departments and institutions.
