RAIPUR,CG: In the Basic Life Support workshop on Thursday, in case of cardiac arrest patients of different ages like adults and children, the ways to save life by giving life saving procedures like chest compression and artificial respiration were imparted.
It was the second day of the workshop organized on Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College, Raipur. Post graduate residents from different departments of different medical colleges of the state participated to receive the training.
Resident doctors of Anesthesia, PSM, Ophthalmology, Respiratory Medicine and ENT participated in the workshop being organized by the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Management of the Medical College in the Skill Lab located on the fourth floor of the Medical College.
Training was given about basic life support and observing (reading) the ECG of the patient’s heart.
Course Coordinator and Head of Anesthesia Department, Dr. Pratibha Jain Shah said that one should know how to observe ECG properly so that heart attack and other heart related patients can get timely and proper treatment during the golden period.
Dr. Shivam Patel, emergency medicine specialist of Ambedkar Hospital, said that the method of CPR is different for adults, children and pregnant women. Regarding CPR in children, he said that it is a life-saving procedure which is done when the child's breathing or heartbeat stops. This can happen after drowning, suffocation or injury, or after heart problems. In CPR, rescue breathing provides oxygen to the child’s lungs. Blood continues to circulate through the baby through chest compressions.
