Prior to polls, training for electoral roll

RAIPUR,CG: The Chhattisgarh State Election Commissioner Ajay Singh, a training session was held for Sub-District Election Officers regarding the preparation of electoral rolls with photos for the upcoming general and by-elections for municipalities and three-tier panchayats scheduled for December 2024 to January 2025.

The training, conducted by the Master Trainer, emphasized the importance of ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the voter list within the designated timeline. It was instructed that the names of all individuals who turn 18 by January 1, 2024, must be included in the voter list, with awareness campaigns to be conducted at the district level. All election-related tasks must be completed within the given deadlines.

The training provided detailed guidance on various aspects of the election process, including statutory provisions for Panchayat and urban body elections, the appointment and responsibilities of officers and employees, and the steps for preparing, publishing, and printing the preliminary electoral roll. Additionally, the process for receiving and addressing claims and objections, making necessary amendments, and updating entries in the software was also covered.

The State Election Commission outlined a two-phase schedule for preparing the electoral roll for the Municipal General/By-Election 2024. In the first phase, appointments for Registration Officers and Assistant Registration Officers and the selection of employees will be completed by September 18, 2024. Updated electoral rolls from the Legislative Assembly, as of January 1, 2024, will be obtained by September 20, 2024, and distributed to registration authorities by September 21, 2024. The checklist and final corrections of the electoral roll will be completed by October 7, 2024, with the final printing scheduled for October 14, 2024.

In the second phase, the electoral roll will be published, and claims and objections will be accepted until October 23, 2024, with resolutions and appeals processed by November 13, 2024. The final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on November 22, 2024.

A similar schedule applies to the preparation of the Panchayat electoral roll, with key dates mirroring those for the municipal elections. The final publication of the Panchayat electoral roll is scheduled for November 29, 2024.
