Odisha to follow Chhattisgarh’s Model for paddy procurement

RAIPUR,CG,BHARAT: On the model of Chhattisgarh, Odisha will now begin purchasing paddy from farmers at a support price, with an additional incentive amount. A study team led by Odisha’s Food Minister Krishna Chandra Patra visited Chhattisgarh o Tuesday to observe its paddy procurement and Public Distribution System (PDS) and expressed their appreciation for the state's system.

Patra announced that, following this model, Odisha will implement a similar approach, with the decision already approved by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Manjhi in the first cabinet meeting.

Patra praised Chhattisgarh's governance under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, highlighting the state’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. He stated that Odisha would also adopt this policy to strengthen governance and curb corruption.

Patra emphasized the cooperation between neighboring states, noting the rapid development in both Odisha and Chhattisgarh under the ‘double engine’ government approach. He acknowledged the support of Chhattisgarh’s ministers, who have pledged assistance in improving Odisha’s paddy procurement and PDS. Any shortcomings in Odisha’s current system will be addressed by adopting Chhattisgarh's successful model.

During the visit, Patra’s team met with state’s Food Minister Dayal Das Baghel and Cooperation Minister Kedar Kashyap for detailed discussions on the procurement process. The study team reviewed every aspect of the system through presentations and field visits to agricultural markets, grain warehouses, and government fair price shops, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of Chhattisgarh’s model.
