Union Ministry approves 15,000 new houses for urban areas

RAIPUR,CG,BHARAT: The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has approved the construction of 15,000 new houses in Chhattisgarh under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0.

The decision comes in recognition of the state’s rapid progress in housing construction and its strong performance of the state.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal for the significant approval.

“This decision will help fulfill the dream of providing pucca houses to every underprivileged family in the state,” said Sai. He assured that the government remains committed to ensuring the benefits of the scheme reach even the most marginalized sections of society.

The houses will be distributed across urban areas throughout Chhattisgarh, providing affordable housing solutions to families in need.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has officially communicated its in-principle approval to the state’s Urban Administration and Development Department. It has directed the state government to identify eligible beneficiaries following the scheme’s guidelines and submit proposals to the central government. A target has been set to complete these housing projects by March 2025.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0, launched on September 1, 2024, under the "Housing for All" mission, focuses on providing financial assistance to economically weaker sections, lower-income groups, and middle-income groups in urban areas. Beneficiaries can avail support for constructing, purchasing, or renting housing at affordable rates.

In state, a Rapid Assessment Survey for the scheme commenced on November 15, capturing beneficiary data on the central government’s unified web portal. The survey spans all urban bodies, ensuring a thorough assessment of housing needs.

Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao emphasized the state government’s commitment to ensuring every eligible family benefits from the scheme. He asked urban bodies to avoid rejecting applications solely due to incomplete documentation, urging them to coordinate with the revenue department to facilitate the issuance of pending caste and income certificates. Saw also directed urban bodies to prioritize efforts in providing necessary documents to ensure maximum inclusivity in the scheme.
