RAIPUR: The senior men’s and women’s fencing teams from Chhattisgarh have departed to participate in the 35th Senior National Fencing Championship, which will be held from December 31, 2024, to January 3, 2025, at the Mundayal Indoor Stadium in Kannur, Kerala. The event is being organized by the Kerala Fencing Association under the guidance of the Fencing Association of India.
A 28-member contingent from Chhattisgarh, comprising male and female athletes, will represent the state.
The Chhattisgarh State Fencing Association held a selection competition on November 2024, at the Ispat Club in Bhilai’s Sector-1. Based on the performance, a list of probable players was prepared. Following this, a specialized training camp was organized at the Multipurpose Hall, Ispat Club, in last week of December.
Men’s Fencing Team includes Foil Event: Anis Yadav (Bilaspur), Jatin Taram (BSP, Bhilai), Bhupendra Singh Yadav (Durg), Atul Kumar (Durg), Épée Event: Bhupendra Kumar Yadav (Durg), Janardan Sahu (Bhilai Municipal Corporation), Himanshu Netam (Durg), Karan Singh Anand (Durg) and Saber Event: Reshu Sahu (Bilaspur), Gaurav Chaudhary (Durg), Vineet Sahu (Bilaspur), Daksh Chaudhary (Durg)
Women’s Fencing Team have Foil Event: Deepanshi Netam (BSP, Bhilai), Maya Sahu (Durg), Divyanshu Netam (BSP, Bhilai), Bharti Sahu (Durg), Épée Event: Rasman Kaur Dhiman (Durg), Rupali Sahu (Bilaspur), Riba Beni (Raipur), Monica Sahu (Durg) and Saber Event: Vedika Khushi Ravana (Durg), Vedika Kaushik (Durg), Marilyn Mary Sibu (Raipur), Mona Patel (Durg).
The Sports and Youth Welfare Department, Government of Chhattisgarh, provided railway fare, daily travel allowance, and tracksuits to the athletes. Additionally, the Chhattisgarh State Fencing Association supplied T-shirts for the players and officials.
