CG: Nine new urban bodies, upgrades seven NPs

RAIPUR,INDIA: Chhattisgarh witnessed significant urban development in 2024, with the formation of nine new Nagar Panchayats and the upgrading of seven existing ones into Municipalities and Municipal Corporations. It brings the total number of urban bodies in the state to 192, comprising 14 Municipal Corporations, 54 Municipalities, and 124 Nagar Panchayats.

From January to December 2024, the following regions were recognized as Nagar Panchayats: Lal Bahadur Nagar and Ghumka in Rajnandgaon district, Jarhagaon in Mungeli, Patna in Korea, Kusmi in Bemetara, Devbhog in Gariaband, Shivanandanpur in Surajpur, Bamhanidih in Janjgir-Champa, and Palari in Balod district.

Additionally, Gaurela and Pendra Nagar Panchayats in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district were upgraded to Municipal Corporations. Other Nagar Panchayats, including Lormi in Mungeli, Abhanpur in Raipur, Bodri in Bilaspur, Simga in Balodabazar-Bhatapara, and Ramanujganj in Balrampur-Ramanujganj, were elevated to Municipality status.
