RAIPUR,INDIA: The Chhattisgarh women’s beach handball team clinched the gold medal at the National Beach Handball Competition held at the Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati, Assam, from January 10 to 13, 2025.
Organized by the Assam Handball Association under the aegis of Handball Association India, the tournament featured teams from across the nation competing for top honours.
In the final match on Monday, Chhattisgarh faced Kerala and secured a decisive victory, winning in two straight sets. The first set ended 14-11 in favour of Chhattisgarh, followed by a commanding 19-11 win in the second set. The team's goalkeeper, Kanchan Mahanand, was recognized for her outstanding performance and awarded the title of Best Goalkeeper of the competition.
Earlier in the day, Chhattisgarh secured their place in the finals by defeating Haryana in a tightly contested semi-final match, with scores of 13-12 and 15-12.
The accomplishment was celebrated by the Chhattisgarh Handball Association, with its President, Dharmendra Yadav, and Executive President, Arun Singhania, expressing their pride in the team's success. Notable congratulations also came from B.S.P. Handball Club President B.D. Babu, Secretary Abdul Rahim, and former General Secretary of the association, Bashir Ahmed Khan, who lauded the players for their hard work and determination.
