CG: SEC issues guidelines for R-Day

MAHASAMUND,INDIA: The State Election Commission, Chhattisgarh has issued guidelines for organizing Republic Day celebrations, considering the ongoing model code of conduct for municipal and three-tier Panchayat elections.

The Commission has allowed Republic Day functions but has strictly prohibited any form of political propaganda. While political dignitaries such as the Chief Minister, Ministers, MPs, and MLAs may attend as chief guests, their speeches must focus solely on patriotism, the achievements of freedom fighters, and inspirational messages. Announcing new schemes or engaging in political campaigning during these events is not permitted.

Officials may participate in functions outside their home districts or constituencies, but those planning to contest elections are barred from being chief guests in their respective constituencies. Tableaux showcasing popular government schemes are allowed, but they must not feature images of any political representatives. Cultural programs can also be organized, provided they remain free of political content.

Elected representatives of three-tier panchayats and urban bodies are authorized to hoist the national flag in their offices. The Election Commission emphasized strict compliance with the model code of conduct in all Republic Day activities.
