RAIPUR,INDIA: Raipur Collector and District Election Officer Dr. Gaurav Singh has implemented Section 163 of the Indian Civil Code 2023 across Raipur Municipal Corporation, other urban bodies, and Panchayats in Raipur district to ensure peace, order, and a fear-free environment for voters during the Urban Body and Three-Tier Panchayat General Election-2025. The directive includes a ban on carrying weapons in public places.
The election process, initiated following the announcement of the schedule by the Chhattisgarh State Election Commission, aims to prevent anti-social elements from disrupting the peaceful and fair conduct of the elections. To maintain voter confidence and ensure a secure environment, Dr. Singh's order, effective from January 20, 2025, prohibits individuals from carrying weapons such as swords, axes, spears, knives, sticks, tridents, or any other similar items in public spaces. However, this restriction does not apply to government officials carrying weapons while on duty, individuals requiring sticks for physical support due to old age or disability, or weapons held for religious purposes.
Additionally, the order stipulates that no person or group may hold meetings, rallies, or processions within the election area without prior permission from the competent authority. Violations of these provisions will result in action under Section 223 of the Indian Justice Code 2023. These measures are designed to promote a safe and orderly election process while ensuring that voters can exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation.
