CG: Political parties urged to adhere to election code of conduct

RAIPUR,INDIA: Raipur Collector and District Election Officer Dr. Gaurav Singh has emphasized the importance of adhering to the Model Code of Conduct issued by the Election Commission for ensuring free and fair elections.

Addressing representatives of various political parties in a meeting held at the Red Cross meeting room in the Collectorate premises, Dr. Singh stressed that the cooperation of political parties is crucial for the successful conduct of urban and three-tier Panchayat elections in the district.

Dr. Singh urged political parties and candidates to avoid promoting caste or religious issues during their campaigns. He also instructed them not to use religious places or institutions for election appeals. Placing flags, posters, banners, or other promotional materials on private property without prior permission is strictly prohibited, as is the operation of campaign offices on encroached land or buildings. Furthermore, temporary campaign offices cannot be established in proximity to educational institutions, hospitals, or within 200 meters of polling stations, nor can they be set up in religious buildings. Necessary permissions for campaign offices will be granted by the competent authority.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Lal Umaid Singh advised political parties to report any obstructions or disturbances during processions or meetings to the police instead of taking matters into their own hands. Police forces present during such events will address these issues. He also reminded organizers to inform local police before holding election meetings or processions and to comply with any applicable restrictions. Permission must be obtained for the use of loudspeakers or other sound equipment during such events.

The district administration reiterated its commitment to conducting the elections smoothly and ensuring a fair environment for all participants.
