CG: BJP triumphs in Basna Nagar Panchayat, Congress leaders resignation continues

RAIPUR,INDIA: In a major political development in Chhattisgarh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a significant win in Basna Nagar Panchayat of Mahasamund district. Meanwhile, the resignation and revolt in the Congress party continues at the district level.

BJP candidate Dr. Khushboo Agarwal has been elected unopposed to the position of Nagar Panchayat President. The victory came after candidates from Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and independents withdrew their nominations before the final date of withdrawal on Friday. Congress's Tulsi Gautam Banjara and AAP's Amreen Gigani were among those who stepped down, solidifying Agarwal's uncontested election. In the wake of the success, BJP workers celebrated by organizing a Vijay rally in the city to express their gratitude to the public.

Similarly, in Ward number 18, of Raigarh Municipal Corporation after the Congress candidate withdrew the nomination, the BJP candidate is likely to win unopposed.

Meanwhile, the BJP is taking a strong approach in the upcoming three-tier Panchayat elections in Kanker district. Former MLA Sumitra Markole has been named as the party’s candidate for the District Panchayat member post. Markole, who will contest from District Panchayat area number 1, is part of a slate of 13 BJP candidates vying for positions in the district. This move signals the BJP's commitment to strengthening its local presence and consolidating its position in Kanker.

In a related political development, Bemetara District Congress Committee President Bansi Patel resigned from his position and from the party’s primary membership. In his resignation letter addressed to Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, Patel cited the controversial nomination of a candidate for Bemetara Nagar Palika, who had been expelled from the party for financial misconduct. Patel accused State General Secretary Malkit Singh Gendu of manipulating the situation to favor a candidate from his own caste. Additionally, Patel highlighted the BJP’s good relations with Chandraprakash Sahu, the candidate for the post of president in Kusmi Nagar Panchayat, who is reportedly close to Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap. Currently, former MLA Ashish Chhabra serves as the acting president of the Congress in the region.

Mohla-Manpur Congress President Anil Manikpuri had also resigned.
