Raipur receives approval for 03 MCh Surgical Oncology seats

RAIPUR,INDIA: Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Smriti Medical College Raipur has secured approval from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, for the introduction of 03 seats in the MCh (Surgical Oncology) Super Specialization course.

The approval, directed by the National Medical Commission (NMC), will facilitate the commencement of the course in the ongoing academic session, marking a milestone in cancer care education in Chhattisgarh.

The Cancer Department at Raipur Medical College already offers 6 recognized seats for the MD (Radiotherapy) program. The approval of the MCh Surgical Oncology course adds a new dimension to the treatment options available for cancer patients in the state, ensuring access to advanced surgical interventions and specialized care.

Dr. Vivek Chaudhary, Dean of Raipur Medical College, and Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Professor of Surgical Oncology, announced that Raipur Medical College has become the first government medical institution in Central India to offer this highly specialized course.

Dr. Arvind Neral, Chairman of the NMC Cell at the college, explained that the application for the course was initially submitted last year but faced delays due to certain deficiencies. After addressing these issues and appealing twice for reconsideration, the college administration received a favourable response from the NMC. The review, which met with positive feedback, led to the NMC’s final approval.

The introduction of the MCh Surgical Oncology course is set to revolutionize cancer treatment in the state. Key benefits include, access to advanced surgical oncology treatments for cancer patients, the availability of highly trained super-specialists in Surgical Oncology to cater to patient needs and enhanced opportunities for postgraduate medical students to pursue world-class education and research in the field of oncology.
