Pollution Check Centres at petrol pumps in Chhattisgarh

RAIPUR,INDIA: In a major step towards controlling vehicular pollution, pollution under control (PUC) centres will be established at petrol pumps across Chhattisgarh.

Petroleum companies have given their approval for the initiative, which aims to make pollution certification more accessible for vehicle owners while contributing to environmental protection.

With these centres at fuel stations, vehicle owners will no longer have to search for separate PUC centres, making the process more convenient. The move aligns with efforts to curb air pollution and ensure compliance with environmental norms in the state.

The decision follows a directive from Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, who, during a Transport Department review meeting asked officials to take effective measures to reduce vehicle emissions. Acting on it Transport Secretary and Transport Commissioner S.K. Prakash chaired a key meeting on Friday, alongside Additional Transport Commissioner D. Ravi Shankar.

Senior officials from Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum, and Reliance Industries attended the meeting and agreed to set up PUC centres at their petrol pumps. The initiative aligns with guidelines from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Central Government, aiming to enhance air quality and public safety.

Among those present were Upendra Giri (Chief Manager, Indian Oil Corporation), B.B. Devkumar (Reliance Industries), Shreyas Gupta (Manager, Hindustan Petroleum), Gautam Kumar (Chief Manager, Hindustan Petroleum), and other officials from the Transport Department and petroleum companies.
