CM reaffirms government commitment for white revolution

RAIPUR,INDIA: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai reaffirmed the government's commitment to making Chhattisgarh a leader in dairy production by increasing farmers’ income, strengthening rural infrastructure, and achieving self-sufficiency in milk production. He emphasized that dairy farming is not just an agricultural activity but a key driver of economic growth, and significant efforts are being made to establish it as a profitable and sustainable industry.

At a high-level review meeting of the Animal Husbandry Department at Mahanadi Bhavan, Chief Minister Shri Sai discussed a strategic pilot project designed in collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). The initiative, based on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in December 2024, aims to accelerate dairy development in the state. With an initial investment of ₹5 crore, the project will begin in six districts before expanding further to position Chhattisgarh as a major dairy producer.

Highlighting the significance of dairy farming as a secondary source of income for many agricultural households, Shri Sai underscored the importance of increasing per capita milk availability and optimizing the use of surplus milk. He urged officials to launch awareness campaigns to educate farmers on modern dairy technologies, scientific breeding methods, and efficient farm management techniques.

During the meeting, NDDB Chairman Shri Meenesh Shah provided an overview of the state’s dairy sector and the roadmap for its expansion. He noted that Chhattisgarh currently produces around 5.8 million kilograms of milk per day, with immense potential for growth. To enhance the sector, NDDB has developed a comprehensive action plan focusing on strengthening cooperative dairy societies, improving milk quality testing facilities, implementing a digital payment system for prompt transactions, and promoting biogas and bio-fertilizer plants to support sustainable practices.

Shri Sai stressed that the successful execution of the pilot project would be instrumental in making Chhattisgarh self-sufficient in dairy production. He called for improvements in livestock productivity, breeding programs, and animal nutrition policies to ensure long-term growth.

Reaffirming his vision for the state’s dairy industry, the Chief Minister stated, "We are dedicated to revolutionizing dairy farming with advanced technology, modern infrastructure, and scientific practices. By expanding milk production, supporting farmers with better facilities, and promoting sustainable dairy initiatives, we aim to establish Chhattisgarh as a prominent leader in India’s dairy sector."
