NSL sets new production records

NAGARNAR,CG(INDIA): Nagarnar Steel Limited (NSL) has achieved a significant breakthrough by setting new production records across all its major units on two days. The exceptional performances underscore the company's strong operational capabilities and mark a milestone in its journey as an emerging leader in India's steel sector.

On April 13, NSL's Blast Furnace delivered an outstanding output of 10,169 tonnes of hot metal in a single day, exceeding both its designed average and peak capacities. This furnace, which began operations in August 2023, was originally built to produce around 9,500 tonnes per day, with a peak rating of 9,900 tonnes. Achieving 2.26 tonnes per cubic metre per day in such a short operational span reflects the advanced technical planning and disciplined operations within the plant.

Continuing the momentum, April 14 saw further historic production across the facility. The sinter plant delivered its highest-ever daily output, while the steel melting shop, thin slab caster, and hot strip mill each registered their own record figures. These performances not only reflect operational stability but also signal that NSL is already performing well beyond its initial rated capacity—an encouraging sign for the plant's future trajectory.

CMD of NMDC Steel, Amitava Mukherjee, praised the achievements, emphasizing that surpassing design parameters within months of commissioning is a testament to the engineering strength and execution excellence of the NSL team. He stated that these results firmly establish NSL as a serious contender among India’s top steel producers.

NSL’s blast furnace is equipped with an advanced Pulverised Coal Injection (PCI) system, designed to inject 150 kg of coal per tonne of hot metal to reduce coke consumption. The operations team has successfully stabilized coal injection rates above this design threshold, resulting in improved fuel efficiency and aligning with NSL’s broader goals of sustainable and cost-effective steelmaking.

Despite initial delays and logistical challenges, NSL has demonstrated remarkable resilience and precision in its operations. The recent production highs are a reflection of this collective effort and a promising indicator of NSL’s potential to drive innovation, quality manufacturing, and national self-reliance in the steel industry.
