RAIPUR,CG(INDIA): The Chhattisgarh government, has made key changes to the Industrial Land and Building Management Rules, 2015. These updates, officially announced, aim to boost industrial growth and improve workers’ lives by allowing new uses for land leased in industrial areas, said Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.
One major change allows factory owners to use up to 15% of their leased land for non-industrial purposes like offices, canteens, and administrative blocks. Earlier, strict rules made it difficult for businesses to set up such facilities. Now, with fewer restrictions, entrepreneurs can make better use of their land, which is expected to help improve productivity and efficiency.
The second major change is the green light to build housing for workers within or near factory premises. It is a gamechanger for industries in rural or semi-urban areas where workers often face housing shortages. With accommodation close to work, employees will save time and money on travel, feel more secure, and likely work more efficiently.
The updates are expected to be especially helpful for small and medium businesses. Having workers live nearby can reduce absenteeism and make staffing more stable. It will also ease the pressure on housing in urban centres, as workers won’t have to commute from far-off cities.
Earlier, setting up employee facilities on leased land required a complicated process. Now, industries can use 15% of their space for essential needs like welfare centres, training halls, or warehouses—without extra hurdles. The shift makes operations smoother and more cost-effective.
Business owners and experts are welcoming the move. Raipur-based industrialist Rajesh Aggarwal said the new rules will allow them to create better spaces for employees and improve morale by offering housing.
Chief Minister Sai called the amendment a step toward building a “developed Chhattisgarh.” He said the focus is on supporting both industries and the workforce, ensuring balanced growth. The rule change is expected to draw more investment to the state while also uplifting the lives of thousands of industrial workers.
