Heat wave warning in Chhattisgarh

RAIPUR,CG (INDIA): Chhattisgarh continues to reel under intense heat, with temperatures crossing 40 degrees Celsius across the state. The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave warning for Raipur, Bilaspur, and parts of the Durg division for the next 48 hours. The heat is now persistent not only during the afternoon but also in the early morning and nighttime hours, offering little relief to residents.

No major changes in the weather are expected for the next three days, though a slight drop of 2 to 3 degrees in temperature is likely after that. It suggests that some respite from the scorching heat may come next week.

On Thursday, Durg recorded the highest temperature in the state at 44.2 degrees Celsius. Raipur followed closely with 43.7 degrees, which is 3.3 degrees above normal. The night temperatures have also remained unusually high, with Raipur recording a minimum temperature that was 4.1 degrees above the average. Meanwhile, Ambikapur recorded a relatively cooler 19.6 degrees, giving slight relief during the early and late hours of the day.

Weather conditions are expected to shift starting April 26. Moisture coming in from the Bay of Bengal may trigger rainfall in the Bastar division. The rest of the state remained dry on Friday.

However, isolated places in Bastar may witness light showers accompanied by thunderstorms. This change is expected to bring down the temperature slightly and provide partial relief from the ongoing heatwave.
