RAIPUR: National Cadet Corps under Puneet Sagar Campaign, on Saturday spread the message to keep ponds, rivers and reservoirs clean and also keep away from plastics.
Around 2,000 cadets from various institutions of NCC Raipur Group participated in the event held at Telibandha pond. Extending the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Puneet Sagar campaign is being run across the country by the NCC.
The objective is to free the sea shores and beaches, lakes, rivers and ponds from plastic and other wastes. It is also to create awareness to save the environment from plastic waste.
NCC in Raipur Chhattisgarh has about 18 thousand cadets in about 253 schools and 100 colleges across the state. So far, 75 water bodies of Chhattisgarh have been made plastic free by NCC cadets of Raipur Group. A total of 2400 kg plastic waste has been collected and sent for recycling.
NCC cadets from schools and colleges of Raipur 8 CG Girls Battalion, 27 CG Battalion, 5 CG CGI, 1 CG Naval Unit and 3 CG Air Squadron along with citizens of Raipur city, volunteers and NGOs participated.
NCC cadets presented street plays, Puneet Sagar songs, dances and speeches. Local Chhattisgarhi artist Sunil Tiwari also performed.
Group Commander Brigadier Vikram Singh Chauhan, YSM gave detailed information about the Puneet Sagar campaign conducted by NCC cadets in the state of Chhattisgarh.
