20 years' imprisonment for transporting cannabis

* A fine of Rs 2 lakh each imposed

Mahasamund, Chhattisgarh: The Special Judge (NDPS) Mahasamund Leeladhar Sarathi, served the sentence to the accused of transporting the cannabis (Ganja) to 20 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on the accused.

Special Public Prosecutor Jitendra Kumar Sahu said that Rizwan Sakka (20 yrs) and Nizakat Sakka (28 yrs), both residents of village Jhimrawat, Police Station Pingwa, of Haryana were accused of transporting cannabis illegally.

After the charges were proved in the court, both the accused were found guilty. They were sentenced to 20 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2 lakh each. On non-payment of fine they will undergo rigorous imprisonment for one year separately.

The prosecution story states that, Assistant Sub Inspector Shivkumar of Police Station Komakhan, District Mahasamund, during patrolling received a tip off from the informer on 08.01.2022 that the cannabis is being transported illegally in a truck from Odisha. It truck was blocked at Temri Naka from which a total of 700 kg (07 quintals) of illegal drugs was seized from the joint possession of both the accused.

The chargsheet was filed after investigation. The court of Leeladhar Sarathi, Special Judge, found the accused guilty under section 20(b)(ii)(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985 and served the sentence.
