Transcatheter mitral valve implanted without any incision

Raipur, Chhattisgarh: The Advanced Cardiac Institute (ACI) at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Medical College Hospital performed Transcatheter Mitral Valve Implant (TMVR) through valve in valve procedure to save the life of a 70 year old female patient.

With the procedure ACI became the first and only institute in the entire state of Chhattisgarh to perform the Mitral Valve Replacement procedure without any incision on the patient's chest.

Dr. Smit Srivastava, Head of the Department of Cardiology at the Advanced Cardiac Institute (ACI) sad the mitral valve was implanted through the patient’s thigh vein in a process similar to placing stents in the heart veins in angioplasty. The patient has been fitted with a 26 mm mitral valve.

The Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal have congratulated the entire team of ACI for the achievement.

ACI affiliated to Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Medical College Hospital, the largest government hospital of Chhattisgarh, is establishing its new identity in the successful treatment of complex heart diseases.

The patient was suffering from severe mitral regurgitation (MR), a common heart disease that usually requires open heart surgery. The patient underwent the non-invasive procedure at the Department of Cardiology, Advanced Cardiac Institute on Tuesday. She has recovered and is ready to be discharged soon.
