Training cum workshop on human elephant conflict management

Korba, Chhattisgarh, India: Training cum workshop on human-elephant conflict management and forest fire control was organized in village Chotiya in Kendai, forest range of Katghora forest range. Elephant expert Prabhat Dubey from Surguja Elephant Reserve took the session holding discussions on human elephant conflict management, forest fire control, support price of forest produce and Sajag App.

Divisional Forest Officer Kumar Nishant, spoke on the history of wild elephants in the forest division and explained about the genetic mapping done in elephants. He advised not to set fire in the forest and explained about the natural harm caused by wildfire. He advised not to set fire under the trees while harvesting Mahua and discussed the economic benefits of collecting food grade Mahua through the net.

He spoke in detail about the support price of the forest produce purchased by the Forest Department. He gave in detail the market price of the forest produce and prohibited them from selling the forest produce at a price lower than the support price.

Prabhat Dubey, gave training about the normal behaviour of elephants during the training. The behaviour to be followed during encounter with elephants as well as explained about the identification, management and measures for elephant safety from wild elephants. He explained to the school children about the climate change caused by the destruction of forests and gave detailed information about not setting fire in the forests and measures to extinguish it in case of fire.

He trained the villagers regarding how to use the Sajag App and how they can enter the location of elephants in the App.
