Women empowerment requires legal, schemes for uplift: Governor

Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India: Chhattisgarh Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan emphasized that achieving women's empowerment requires both legal reforms and uplifting initiatives for women and children.

He was addressing as part of the International Women’s Day celebration, organized by the Chhattisgarh State Human Rights Commission and Government J Yoganandam Chhattisgarh College, Raipur.

Underlining the significance of International Women’s Day he said, it is a reminder of the progress towards gender equality while acknowledging the work yet to be done. He stressed the need for concerted action to dismantle barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create environments where women are valued and respected. He underscored the importance of ensuring equal access to resources, opportunities, decision-making power, and capacity building for women across all domains.

He pointed out that the Indian Constitution lays the foundation for achieving gender equality by enshrining fundamental rights and duties for the protection of women's rights. In 2024, the campaign theme "Inspire Inclusion" emphasizes the importance of diversity in leadership and decision-making roles, advocating for the recognition and empowerment of women in all spheres.

He urged for a collective effort to create a more inclusive world for women, acknowledging women from all walks of life, including those in rural areas.

Acting Chairman of the State Human Rights Commission Girdhari Nayak presided over. The celebration included essay, debate, slogan, poster, quiz, fashion show, and rangoli competitions, with the Governor honoring the winners with certificates and medals.
