Green steel to open doors to economic possibilities: CM

Carbon Emission Target: Green Steel Summit 2024

RAIPUR,CG: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Thursday said the whole world is turning towards green steel to meet the challenge of climate change. Being one of the leading states in steel production, green steel has also brought huge potential for the state. It will not only help in achieving carbon emission targets, but by taking innovative initiatives. It can open the door to possibilities of great economic achievements.

Sai was addressing the Green Steel Summit 2024 organized at Mayfair Lake Resort, Nava Raipur Atal Nagar. The aim of making the Indian steel industry carbon free. Prominent industrialists and businessmen from across the country were present in the summit.

Sai said, “Chhattisgarh state is the leading steel producer in India. We not only have big public sector units like Bhilai Steel Plant and Nagarnar Steel Plant operating here, along with this many small and big steel plants of the private sector are operating.”

The Bhilai Steel Plant is the largest steel plant in Asia and Chhattisgarh has huge reserves of iron, the major ones being Bailadila, Raoghat and Dallirajhara. State contributes about 20 percent of the total steel produced in the country and the share of industries in the state’s economy is 53.50 percent, he said.

He highlighted the global concerns of pollution arising from the steel industry. He called upon all the representatives present at the summit to move forward rapidly towards adopting new technology of green steel production.
