Chhattisgarh faces acute shortage of teachers in government schools

RAIPUR,INDIA: The government schools of Chhattisgarh are grappling with a severe shortage of teachers, with over 56,000 posts currently vacant. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai provided the information in a written reply during the assembly session, responding to a question raised by BJP MLA Bhavna Bohra.

According to the Chief Minister, 5,912 schools in the state are operating with only one teacher, while 439 schools do not have a single teacher posted.

MLA Bhavna Bohra also inquired about the status of the previously announced recruitment of 33,000 teachers and sought clarification on the dismissal of assistant teachers. In response, the Chief Minister stated that the recruitment process for these posts is still under consideration. He further explained that the services of some assistant teachers were terminated due to the requirement of a B.Ed qualification under the 2023 direct recruitment process.

To address concerns regarding the dismissed teachers, the state government has formed a committee under the Chief Secretary’s leadership. The committee will review representations from affected teachers and provide recommendations to the government.
