CG NEWS: Deliberations on “Global Perspectives in Literature and World Cinema”

RAIPUR: Amity School of Languages, Amity University Chhattisgarh organized a five-day Faculty Development Program on “Global Perspectives in Literature and World Cinema” from 10th to 14th July 2023 on virtual mode. The aim of the FDP was to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the faculty members and research scholars in the field of English Literature and Film Studies with special reference to the major literary themes and concepts like Cultural Identity, Blue Humanities, Gender-relations, Diaspora, Disability, Subalternity, Dalit, Queer, Race, and Ethnicity in literature and world cinema. Prof. (Dr.) Anil Kumar Aneja, Professor & Head, Department of English, Delhi University, focused on the representation of ‘Disability in Literature and Films’.  

Prof. (Dr.) Himadri Lahiri, Professor, School of Humanities, Netaji Subhas Open University, West Bengal discussed on the ‘Future of Diaspora Studies’. Prof. (Dr.) Niladri Ranjan Chatterjee, Professor, Department of English, University of Kalyani, West Bengal deliberated on the ‘Queer and the Politics of Consumption’. Prof. (Dr.) T. Marx Professor & Head, Department of English, Pondicherry University, Puducherry conferred on the ‘Subaltern Voice in Literature and Cinema’.  

Dr. Shilpaa Anand, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Hyderabad focused on ‘Literary Cultures of Disability’. Dr. Khairunnisa Nakathorige Assistant Professor, Department of English, School of Languages, Linguistic & Indology, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad introduced a novel area of literature and delivered her lecture on ‘Blue Humanities and Gender’. Prof. (Dr.) Ujjwal Jana, Professor, Department of English Delhi University, Delhi explained how ‘Disability is incorporated in Literature and Films’. Dr. Shubha Ranganathan, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Liberal Arts IIT, Hyderabad critically analysed ‘Disability and Mental Health’.  

Dr. Chapparban Sajaudeen Nijamodeen, Assistant Professor, Centre for Diaspora Studies, Central University of Gujarat, Gandhinagar explained how ‘Diaspora can be an Interdisciplinary approach for Humanities and Social Sciences’. Prof. (Dr.) Manojit Mandal, Professor & Chair, Department of English, Jadavpur University, West Bengal talked about ‘Shakespeare in Indian Popular Culture’ with special reference to Bollywood movies. Prof. (Dr.) Himadri Sekhar Roy Professor, Department of English, Shahjalal University of Science & Technology, Sylhet, Bangladesh, deliberated on the ‘Bangladesh Perspective of Literature and Cinema’.  

The valedictory session was graced by Laxman Gaikwad, the Marathi writer and the recipient of the prestigious ‘Sahitya Akademi Award’. The FDP had more than two hundred spontaneous and active participations. The event was convened by Prof. (Dr) Indrani Singh Rai, Head of the Department and coordinated by Dr Mohaiminul Islam, Assistant Professor, Amity School of Languages. Prof. (Dr.) Piyush Kant Pandey, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Chhattisgarh congratulated the organizing team for the successful conduction of the FDP.
