Standards play important role in daily life: Rao

RAIPUR,CG: Prof. N. V. Ramana Rao, Director of National Institute of Technology (NIT) on Monday said the standards play an important role in daily life.

He was addressing the ‘One Day Sensitization Workshop on Standardization’ jointly organized by National Institute of Technology Raipur and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) at the E-Hall of the NIT.

Tapas Dasgupta, Chief General Manager, Bhilai Steel Plant as the Chief Guest inaugurated it in presence of Sumit Kumar, Head of BIS Raipur Branch Office.

Sumit Kumar, BIS Raipur Head introduced various activities of BIS. He said that BIS is the largest certification body for standards in the country.

Talking about BIS, he said that standards are set for everything around us. BIS is the first organization which has been able to reach out to most of the gram panchayats across the Chhattisgarh state. BIS provides free training to its stakeholders, also created standards clubs in schools and colleges which organize standards related activities.

He said that BIS touches everyone's life today like the Steel Authority of India. He said that BIS is not only for standardization, but it is also for testing and certification.

Information about BIS and its functions was given through various interactive sessions, presentations, and other activities. Also, future possibilities regarding the signed MOU between NIT Raipur and BIS was also discussed.
