RAIPUR,CG: An Inter School Chess Competition was held on the eve of International Chess Day in Adarsh Vidyalaya Devendra Nagar, Raipur. For Adarsh Vidyalaya, it was to mark the beginning of a grand year- long joyous Golden Jubilee Celebrations. The mother school feels proud of its fiftieth year of long committed service, etching a remarkable position of its own in the city with four quality schools in Raipur. The pioneers of Raipur Kerala Samajam started its first branch in Devendra Nagar Raipur in the year 1974.
The event began after lighting the lamp and offering flowers in honour of Ma Saraswati according to the school 's tradition. Inaugurating the event, the Chief Guest of the occasion, Mr. Vinod Pillai, President, Raipur Kerala Samajam congratulated the participants and wished them best of luck in the tournament. Dr. Jacob Sakariah, General Secretary, RKS and Mr. J. Sajit Nair, Treasurer RKS also blessed the competitors in the battle of wits.
The tournament was held in two categories - classes 6-8 and 9-12. The players exhibited their mental acumen throughout the game and thrilled the spectators. Talented players from 16 schools participated in the tournament. They were all experienced players of their respective schools.The game benefits the players with sharpness of mind and quickness in taking correct decisions. The winners were honoured with trophies and certificates. The participants and their accompanying teachers were congratulated and given certificates of appreciation. The tournament continued with great zeal and competitive spirit till the last moment.The winners were Aron Liju Mathew, Khushi Sahu, Adamya Sahu, Vedika Giris, from Adarsh Vidyalaya Tatibandh while the runner ups were Dhani Garhewal, Piyush Sahu, Hardik Kumar and Wandana panjwani from St. Mary's English medium school, Adarsh Vidyalaya Mowa, and Shri Balaji Vidya Mandir.
The winners as well as the participants were appreciated and congratulated by the Principal, Ms Suman Shanbhag, V.principal Mr. Unnikrishnan Nair and headmistress Mrs. Shobha Pillai.
