RAJNANDGON,CG: The spread of swine flu in Chhattisgarh has raised concerns as the virus extends its reach beyond Bilaspur to Rajnandgaon. Two fatalities have been reported in Rajnandgaon and Khairagarh districts, prompting authorities to take swift action. The cremations were conducted under strict protocols, with only selected family members, relatives, and medical personnel in attendance.
According to reports, a four-year-old boy from Bhalukonha in the Ghumka area of Rajnandgaon district, and another child from Barnara village in Dongargarh, were diagnosed with swine flu on August 16. The boy's health rapidly deteriorated, leading to his admission to a private hospital in Nandgaon. Despite efforts to save him, the child succumbed to the H1N1 virus, confirmed by the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) after notifying the hospital management.
In a related case, a young man from Chhuikhadan in Khairagarh district also fell victim to the swine flu virus. He was admitted to a private hospital in critical condition, but his weakened state made recovery impossible. The deceased, who temporarily resided in the area, worked in the family's traditional profession of pressing clothes. His sudden health decline led to his death. The funeral was conducted according to protocol, as confirmed by Chhuikhadan Block Medical Officer (BMO) Dr. Manish Baghel.
Additionally, a pregnant woman in Durg has also contracted swine flu and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital.
These incidents bring the total number of swine flu-related deaths in the state to five, with three previous fatalities reported in Bilaspur district. Health authorities have been placed on high alert following the deaths in Rajnandgaon and Khairagarh, and intensified monitoring is underway.
In 2015, Rajnandgaon district witnessed seven deaths due to swine flu. Given the current situation, Rajnandgaon CMHO Dr. Netram Navratan has urged the public to exercise caution, avoid crowded places, and stay vigilant to prevent the spread of infectious diseases amid changing weather conditions.
