RAIPUR/DELHI,INDIA: On World Tourism Day, the Union Ministry of Tourism launched the national responsible tourism initiative, "Paryatan Mitra and Paryatan Didi," at 50 locations across the country, including Raipur.
The program aims to enhance the tourist experience by connecting them with local ambassadors, who act as storytellers and proud representatives of their destinations. The initiative focuses on providing tourism-related training and raising awareness among locals to engage meaningfully with visitors.
The "Best Tourism Villages" competition, introduced in 2023, seeks to promote tourism in India's villages, emphasizing the preservation and promotion of cultural and natural heritage through community-based values and sustainability. In its first edition, the contest received 795 applications from villages across the country.
In 2024, the second edition saw a total of 991 applications from 30 states and union territories. From these, 36 villages were recognized as winners in eight categories, showcasing excellence in tourism and sustainability.
