BILASPUR,CG,BHARAT: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India based in Chhattisgarh, concluded its "Swachhata Hi Seva" campaign with grand celebrations on Swachh Bharat Diwas. The campaign, which ran from September 14 to October 2, spanned 8 districts in Chhattisgarh and 3 districts in Madhya Pradesh, actively promoting Gandhiji’s message of cleanliness.
90 Metric Tonnes of Waste Collected and River Cleanliness Drives: SECL’s efforts toward "Sampoorn Swachhata" (Complete Cleanliness) led to large-scale waste collection from riverbanks, heritage sites, pilgrimage locations, and dumping grounds. Over 90 metric tonnes of waste were collected and properly disposed of, with active participation from local communities.
4,000 Saplings Planted under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”: In a bid to enhance environmental sustainability, SECL planted more than 4,000 saplings across its headquarters and operational areas under the initiative “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” reinforcing the importance of preserving green cover for future generations.
Safai Mitra Samman and Health Camps: SECL honored Safai Mitras (cleanliness workers) by providing them with essential gear such as boots, gloves, and T-shirts. Additionally, free health camps were organized, benefiting over 800 Safai Mitras, demonstrating SECL’s commitment to the well-being of its frontline workers.
Swachhata Run and Public Awareness: On October 1, SECL organized the "Swachhata Happy Run" in Bilaspur, where over 100 participants, including women and schoolchildren, participated to spread awareness about cleanliness. Similar rallies and walkathons were held across SECL’s operational areas to reinforce the importance of maintaining a clean environment.
School Initiatives: SECL involved schoolchildren in various events to promote cleanliness awareness. Activities such as "Swachhata Ki Pathshala" (Cleanliness Classroom), human chain formations, essay writing, quizzes, and painting competitions were held to embed the values of cleanliness in the younger generation.
The "Swachhata Hi Seva" campaign also served as a precursor to the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances' Special Campaign 4.0, which focuses on promoting cleanliness within government offices. SECL has set a target to dispose of over 2,200 metric tonnes of scrap and clear more than 30 lakh square feet of space within its facilities by October 31st.
