* Closing Ceremony ‘Sangathan-2024’

RAIPUR,CG,BHARAT: Sangathan 2024, Amity University’s month-long mega event, concluded on Tuesday with a grand celebration, featuring a march-past, cultural performances, and an awards ceremony honoring a stellar group of students. The event was graced by Deepesh Kumar Sinha, International Volleyball Player, Gungadhur Award, Shaheed Rajeev Pandey Award 2015 and ASI, Chhattisgarh Police, who attended as the special guest for the closing ceremony.

The festivities began on September 18 with the inauguration of Sangathan 2024 through the lighting of the Khel Jyoti, followed by an oath-taking ceremony led by the school captains. Over the course of the event, 12 outdoor games and 3 indoor games were organized, including popular sports like Kho-Kho, Cricket, Football, Long Jump, Volleyball, Basketball, Kabaddi, and Athletics (100m and 400m relays). The event saw overwhelming participation from 1,517 students, with 486 winners (243 boys and 243 girls) across various categories.

Vice-Chancellor Professor (Dr.) Piyush Kant Pandey, in his speech, referenced Nelson Mandela’s famous quote on the power of education, offering his own insight: “One pen, one book, one student, one teacher, and one vision can change the world!” He emphasized that while education is a powerful tool, a shared vision is equally crucial in driving transformation. Prof. Pandey also paid tribute to Amity’s founder president, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, highlighting the important life lessons sports impart, particularly the ability to face adversity.

He drew inspiration from a legendary moment in Indian cricket history-the 2011 World Cup Final at Wankhede Stadium, where India chased down a target of 274 runs against Sri Lanka. Prof. Pandey emphasized the critical partnership between Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni, which exemplified the teamwork and resilience needed to succeed under immense pressure. "Just like in sports, winning requires coordination and synchronization among all team members," he remarked, drawing a parallel to the spirit of Sangathan.

Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor (Dr.) Saurabh Chaturvedi underscored the importance of sportsmanship, applauding the youth for their discipline, precision, and presentability. He also highlighted sports as a means to attain physical strength, mental empowerment, and spiritual elevation.

Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor (Dr.) Sumita Dave praised Sangathan 2024 as “fair, fine, and grand,” expressing excitement for Sangathan 2025 and noting how the event keeps the spirit of childhood alive in everyone.

The competition was intense, with Amity School of Engineering and Technology emerging victorious, securing 199 points, 12 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 6 bronze medals. Amity Business School followed closely in second place with 193 points, 10 golds, 9 silvers, and 6 bronzes. Amity Institute of Biotechnology took third place with 80 points, winning 3 golds, 5 silvers, and 3 bronzes. A total of 90 medals (30 gold, 30 silver, and 30 bronze) were distributed to the deserving winners during the prize distribution ceremony.

The closing event was marked by vibrant cultural performances by students, including dances like Kaliya Mardan, Mahabharat Draupadi Cheer Haran, Mahishasura Mardini, Mohini Bhasmasur, and Shiv Tandav. In the cultural competition, Amity Business School claimed first place for their performance of Mahabharat Draupadi Cheer Haran, followed by Amity Law School in second with Mahakaali and Raktabija, and Amity School of Architecture and Planning in third with Shiv Tandav (Tadakasur).
