CEO briefs political parties on poll norms

RAIPUR,CG,BHARAT: Chief Electoral Officer, Chhattisgarh Reena Babasaheb on Wednesday briefed the political parties representatives on election expenditure guidelines, polling day arrangements, and directives from the Election Commission of India..

She provided information on the model code of conduct for the upcoming Raipur Nagar (South) Assembly by-election, The Election Commission announced the by-election schedule on October 15, with voting scheduled for November 13 and the counting of votes on November 23.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that the model code of conduct is now in effect in the Raipur Nagar South Assembly constituency following the election announcement. She mentioned that there are 253 polling stations, all located in urban areas, and that 13 auxiliary polling stations will be set up at locations with over 1,500 voters.

Kangale also explained that voters can cast their ballots by presenting either their voter identity card issued by the Election Commission of India or any of 12 other approved identification documents. She further clarified that only three vehicles per candidate will be allowed within a 100-meter radius of the nomination centre, and only five individuals, including the candidate, will be permitted inside the nomination room.

Complaints about any violations of the model code of conduct can be made via the C-Vigil app, while candidates and parties can use the Election Commission’s Suvidha mobile app to apply for various permissions. Information about campaign expenditure limits and the requirement to maintain accurate expense records was also shared. Each candidate is allowed to spend up to Rs 40 lakh during the election.
