Raipur/New Delhi: Gram Panchayat Masulpani of Kanker district of Chhattisgarh has been honoured with the second prize at the national level for its outstanding contribution to water conservation during the 5th National Water Awards. The award was presented by Union Water Minister CR Patil in a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
Sarpanch Ramiya Netam accepted the prestigious award on behalf of Masulpani Panchayat, which was recognized for its innovative water conservation initiatives. Over the past year, the panchayat has constructed 161 watershed structures, including 99 farm ponds, 39 brushwood check dams, one community pond de-silting, two wells, two underground dams, and three gabions. These efforts have significantly improved water availability in the area, enabling the use of surface water for irrigation purposes.
The award acknowledges Masulpani Panchayat's dedication to sustainable water management and the effective use of local water resources. The Ministry of Jal Shakti, which organized the awards, is leading a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about water conservation and promote best practices in water management.
The National Water Awards aim to highlight the contributions of individuals and organizations in achieving the government’s vision of a ‘Water Rich India’. The awards encourage communities across the country to adopt responsible water use practices and recognize their efforts in preserving this vital resource.
