Chhattisgarh registers 18% growth in GST Collection

* Record Revenue Growth: Highest in Country

RAIPUR,CG,INDIA: Chhattisgarh has achieved a remarkable milestone in GST revenue collection under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai. In the financial year 2024-25, the state recorded an unprecedented 18% growth, the highest in the country, collecting a total of ₹16,390 crore in GST revenue. This achievement places Chhattisgarh at the top in terms of GST revenue growth, surpassing Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, which recorded growth rates of 16% and 15%, respectively.

In March 2025, the state saw a significant surge in revenue, with SGST collections reaching ₹1,301.09 crore, marking a 72% increase compared to March 2024. It was the first time Chhattisgarh crossed the ₹1,000 crore mark in SGST collections. Additionally, the IGST collection for the same month amounted to ₹756.73 crore, reflecting a 10% increase from the previous year. Overall, the total GST collection for March 2025 stood at ₹2,057.82 crore, registering an impressive 43% growth compared to March 2024, when the total collection was ₹1,443.66 crore. For the first time since the implementation of GST, Chhattisgarh has surpassed ₹2,000 crore in total revenue collection within a single month.

The achievement is a direct result of strategic reforms and innovations introduced in the Commercial Tax Department. Efforts to strengthen tax administration have led to significant improvements in compliance rates, reducing the number of non-filers from 15% to just 6%. Extensive physical verification of businesses uncovered 4,252 fraudulent firms, accounting for about 15% of total firms, leading to stricter enforcement and increased compliance. Throughout the year, ₹45.13 crore was recovered from audits of business records, while searches and inspections conducted at 77 establishments brought in an additional ₹47.35 crore.

By leveraging data analytics and cross-departmental collaboration, authorities identified 49 sectors with high tax evasion potential, resulting in the recovery of ₹101 crore in revenue. In March 2025, additional efforts ensured that government departments filed GSTR-7 returns, leading to an additional ₹37 crore in collections from suppliers. Furthermore, nearly 36,847 traders across the state were approached to address discrepancies in their tax filings, leading to increased compliance and revenue generation.

Looking ahead, the state is committed to maintaining its leadership in GST revenue growth by adopting cutting-edge technology, including AI-driven monitoring, digital tracking, and advanced compliance systems. According to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, this accomplishment is not just a statistical milestone but a reflection of good governance, transparency, and public participation. He emphasized that a well-structured and technology-driven tax administration can simultaneously boost revenue and foster trust in the system.
