RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel will participate in the cultural evening based on the state's folk culture as part of ‘State Day’ at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on November 21.
The dance performances will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister at Amphi Theater in the International Trade Fair.
During the cultural evening, traditional folk dances mainly Gaur dance, Parab dance, Bhojli dance, Gedi dance, Sua dance, Panthi dance and Karma dance will be performed, an official communication said.
State’s ‘Sua dance’ is performed by women and girls. They carry a ‘Sua’ (clay parrot) in a basket and dance around it by singing ‘Sua’ song. The clapping is one using wood pieces. Towards the end, the Lord Shiva-Gauri marriage is held. Due to which, it is also called ‘Gauri dance’.
Parab Dance is performed by the ‘Dhruva’ tribe of Bastar by both men and women by playing flute, ‘olkhaja’and drum. It is also known as ‘War Dance’ as the dancers carry axes and swords as symbols of valor.
The panthi dance is one of the customary dances of the ‘Satnami’ community. It is generally performed during the birth anniversary of Guru Ghasidas which occurs on Magha Purnima. Dance is a combination of many steps and patterns reflecting teachings of Guru.
Similarly, the ‘Gedi Nrutiya’ is performed by indigenous Muria tribe of Bastar during monsoon month. It displays physical skill and balance. The tribe also performs ‘Gaur Dance’ during the ‘Jatra’ festival. The men wear headgear with horns and are covered by cowries. The only instrument played by women is called Tirtuddi.
The karma dance is performed by tribal groups of the state mainly Gonds, Oraons, and Baigas during the end of the rainy season. A lead singer controls the movement of men and women.
