Attempt to sell 42 quintals of illegal paddy

KOREA: Korea district administration in Chhattisgarh on Saturday detected an effort to sell 42.40 quintals of illegal paddy through a registered farmer’s account at Tribal Service Cooperative Society, Girjapur.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has already asked the district collectors for smooth operation and monitoring of paddy procurement in all the centres. Nodal officers have been appointed in the procurement centre for monitoring and inspection, an official communication said.

A registered farmer’s token was checked on the basis of suspicion in the Tribal Service Cooperative Society, Girjapur by the nodal officer. The farmer has been allocated a token to sell 42.40 quintals of paddy at minimum support price at the centre.

During interrogation, the wife of the farmer (token issued) and vehicle driver, gave misleading information. She said the already issued token in the name of her husband has been brought to sell the paddy.

Korea Collector Vinay Kumar Langeh said that the patwari and other revenue officials conducted an inspection of the crop field and accessed the production status of paddy crop of the said farmer.

It was found that the said farmer is yet to harvest his paddy. Therefore, the consignment brought in his name was not his produce. Based on it, a preliminary report was made and the paddy consignment was seized.
