Chhattisgarh police to intervene if complaint received: CM

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday through a series of tweets and in Facebook post said that state police will be compelled to take legal action, if Enforcement Directorate (ED) continues with physical torture.

Bharatiya Janata Party in a statement said the Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on the ED raids is maintaining double standards. One side he is inviting ED to investigate cases in state and when investigation is underway, he is opposing it.

He said it is a well hatched conspiracy of the Central agencies like ED and Income Tax officials grilling the state officers levelling fake charges. They had reported of mental torture and physical assault during course of investigation.

“It is a matter of critical concern that cases of a broken leg and difficulty in hearing (on being slapped) are being reported,” he stated.

He sought transparency in the investigation by videography of interrogation. The state police should be intimated about the raids or action taken. It has been found that ED/IT officials are directly taking assistance of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans deployed in the state to conduct the raids, he alleged.

Reacting to Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel's statement, BJP’s Raipur division in-charge and MLA Saurabh Singh said that the Chief Minister should not threaten the ED by advocating for the corrupt officials.

Unaccounted wealth and evidence of corruption are being found in the raids of corrupt officers and selected businessmen, so why so much hue and cry on ED's action?, he said.

He said on one side the Congress leaders participated in protest against the ED’s question of Congress top leadership at Raipur and New Delhi.

On the other hand they request for ED probe in chit fund and Civil Supplies case. Apart from it, the government engages eminent lawyers to defend the officers accused of the Civil Supplies scam, he added.

The local police could not even investigate the chit fund scam. The Congress leaders are now issuing threats to ED on taking action against the corrupt.

The Congress leaders should allow it to take its own course. It is nothing but the action of central agencies on the touts is the reason for fuming, Singh said.
