RAIPUR: Herd of six wild water buffaloes was sighted in Indravati Tiger Reserve of Bijapur district. Wild Water Buffalo is the state animal of Chhattisgarh.
Confirming the sighting of six wild water buffaloes, Dhammasheel Ganvir, Deputy Director, Indravati Tiger Reserve, said that for the protection of wild water buffaloes, monitoring is being done. The search operation is done by patrolling guards with assistance from villagers.
He said due to the border of the Indravati Tiger Reserve area with Maharashtra, movement of forest buffaloes takes place in both the areas. Coordination is established by the Reserve Forest Management of both states. It helps in the conservation and promotion of wild water buffalo together.
In India, wild water buffalo is mainly found in Assam and Chhattisgarh. Wild Water Buffalo is one of the rare and endangered species in Chhattisgarh.
