RAIPUR: The players from Chhattisgarh were placed in fifth position in the 3rd Eklavya National Sports Festival held at Guntur, Andhra Pradesh on Friday. The state secured 58 medals, with 26 gold, 12 silver and 20 bronze medals. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Scheduled Castes and Tribes Development Minister Dr. Premsai Singh Tekam extended greetings to the state players for their achievement. The national event was participated by students of Eklavya Model Residential Schools from 22 states. Chhattisgarh has a contingent of 288 players. The event concluded on Thursday, an official communication said. The state players gave their best performance in athletics with 20 medals including 13 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze. In swimming, a total of 16 medals includes 8 gold, 6 silver, and 2 bronze and 10 medals in wrestling which includes 3 gold, 2 silver, and 5 bronze. The players in chess won 1 gold and 2 bronze, 1 Gold in Kho-Kho (Boys), 1 Silver in Judo, and 2 Bronze in Yoga. Badminton, Kabaddi (Boys), Handball (Boys) and Kho-Kho (Girls) team won one bronze each respectively and 1 silver medal in weightlifting. Arjun Kovachi, a student of Eklavya Adarsh Residential School Antagarh (Kanker) won gold medals in 800m, 1500m and 4x400m races and a silver medal in 400m race. Sonadai Kashyap of Eklavya Tokapal (Bastar) won a gold medals in 400m, 200m and 100m race, Bhumika Rathia of Eklavya Charratangar (Raigarh) and Tania Singh of Eklavya Palarikhurd (Sakti) won a gold medal in the high jump. Sohan Oraon won 03 gold medals in the under-14 swimming category.
